COMMISSIONED JUDGE, MANIK KATYAL ON WINNER OF THE FOURTH RPS GRANT

Our fourth grantee for the Reminders Photography Stronghold Wall Grant is to be awarded to French-Italian photographer Jean-Marc Caimi. Here is a note from one of our commissioned judges, Manik Katyal, Editor-in-Chief of Emaho Magazine.

“These Pictures represent a rite of passion through my own existence. My son, my relationships, my friends, my fleeting encounters. Sex, food, nature and the city i live. Places where i want to be. Situations where i feel good or unsafe.” This is part of the text that you read on the first page of Jean-marc’s digital book which makes you curious about what to expect. In the beginning Jean-marc’s work left me slightly concerned but then as you proceed you see an amazing journey through an unknown world, different women, different places, all linked up with a strong connect of high contrast black and white photographs.

At some point, Jean-Marc’s work delights in what one could call a staged absurdity but then his images combine strong individualism and independency, with deep link to his personal life.
