About Jan Rosseel.
Born in Brussels, Belgium (1979). Currently based in The Netherlands/Belgium.
Jan Rosseel initially started a career in cooking. After working in various renowned restaurants in France, Spain and NY. He decided to study Chinese language and culture at Leiden University, The Netherlands.
During an exchange program at Shandong University, China, he chose not to study in class but on the streets. He picked up his camera, spent a month’s salary on film and started documenting the life of Chinese migrant workers.
He studied photojournalism at the Danish School of Media and Journalism in Aarhus, Denmark and documentary photography at the Royal academy of arts in The Hague, The Netherlands. Mainly focusing on social issues, either big or small, he is constantly looking for the most suitable way to visually tell the story. He has been working on stories in China, Laos, Cuba, Israel, Palestine, Armenia, Georgie, Belgium and The Netherlands.
He is currently working on stories regarding historical events and the notion of memory.

Belgian Autumn. A Confabulated History.
In the early 1980s a group of unknown criminals committed a series of extremely violent crimes, amongst these were several raids on supermarkets. Twenty-eight people were murdered. My father was one of them. Based on objective information from police reports, files and newspaper clippings as well as eyewitness accounts the story is a visual research, leaving more questions than answers. To this day the case is still unsolved and remains one of the greatest enigmas in Belgian history.
