The theme of the work ‘Language’:

Please present a ‘personal’ theme in line with the special feature ‘Language’. The reason why it is ‘language’ is because of my father’s experience of studying in Korea by himself after he was over 70 years old and I was overwhelmed at how he had learnt Korean language. Regarding my motivation to learn a language when I am older, I thought that if I travelled with my father in Korea, beyond my unconfined relationship with him, I would be able to grasp the reasons for it. I also felt the need to reflect this theme  after my experience at the MISREAD book fair in Berlin last year, where I could not communicate our label’s concept simply because I could not speak English at all. In this way, the themes NEUTRAL COLORS wants to deal wit this theme ‘Languages’ next are personal and poignant, not necessarily socially charged. I’d like to hear more of your personal story.

Editor, launched NEUTRAL, TRANSIT and ATLANTIS as a publisher, editorial producer and design agency respectively. Consistently dedicated to editing magazines, he started the one-man publishing house NEUTRAL COLORS in 2019. In 2021, he launched the magazine NEUTRAL COLORS, which has published four issues so far.  NEUTRAL COLORS is both the name of the publishing company and the name of an open space where a small group of people can share a workshop and get together to create as required. The name is also the name of a space where a small group of people can share a workshop and gather together to create as required. The aim is to create a place like an asylum for printing and bookbinding.

<About NEUTRAL COLORS>

NEUTRAL COLORS is the name of an independent publisher, a published magazine and a printing and binding house. the three are organically connected. the publishing style of NEUTRAL COLORS is one in which a small group of people come together to print, bind and distribute the book. The aim is to create an economically sustainable medium-size publishing model, somewhere between mass commercial printing and small independent print runs (about 5,000 copies for magazines / 300-1,000 for books and art books), which are designed to be disposed of. The printing and bindery NEUTRAL COLORS is a place where a small group of people can share equipment and come together to produce books as required. It is equipped with equipment for printing and binding, including risographs, binding machines, cutting machines, folding machines and collating machines, and it is here that NEUTRAL COLORS’ publications are born. And this place does not exist solely for the practical role of book production. It is a laboratory where design and editorial ideas continue to accumulate, and functions as a kind of freeport where production methods and sales channels are opened up. https://neutral-colors.com/
