The guests will beYoshikatsu Fujii is currently holding a photography exhibition at RPS Kyoto Paperoles as well as Moe Suzuki, who will hold her exhibition immediately after Fujii from May 3. Their artist books “Nagi” and “Aabuku” were coincidentally both selected as finalists for the “Dummy Award 2024“. We’ll have this talk event at RPS Kyoto Paperoles to commemorate this occasion..
The “Dummy Award” is an award for unpublished dummy photobooks, which was launched in 2010 as the Kassel Dummy Award and newly launched in 2023 in cooperation with the PhotoBook Museum in Cologne. From the entries submitted by photographers from all over the world, juries select a shortlist of about 50 finalists. The shortlisted photobooks will be exhibited in traveling exhibitions around the world, and in addition to the jury’s vote, public and curatorial votes will be taken at each exhibition venue. From these overall results, five finalists will be selected, one of which will receive the PBM/MAS Award. The PBM/MAS awarded dummy book will be produced and published by MAS Matbaa, a Turkish printing company known for the production of photo books, in cooperation with the PhotoBook Museum. The other four winning books will also receive 25% of the printing costs at MAS Matbaa. In October 2023, Dummy Award’s world tour also traveled to Reminders Photography Stronghold in Tokyo and RPS Kyoto Paperoles.
In the 2024 award, 420 books submitted from 44 countries around the world, 51 books were selected as finalists.
In this event, the two artists will talk about the trials and errors, twists and turns that led them to the completion of their respective artist books. Both of their previous works have been nominated for and won various photography book awards in addition to the Dummy Award, making this a rare opportunity to hear about their diverse experiences on photobook making.
This will be an unique chance you can purchase a limited number of artist books of both titles at the event. We look forward to welcoming you there!
