2023 PHOTOBOOK AS OBJECT Showcase: March 16th-24th, 2024

Since 2014, the “PHOTOBOOK AS OBJECT” workshop, organized by Jan Rosseel and Yumi Goto, has been held. In 2023, it took place in two sessions at Reminders Photography Stronghold in Tokyo. We are pleased to announce the exhibition of the outcomes of this workshop, created by participating artists, which will be held at Reminders Photography Stronghold.

In this workshop, the process of crafting a visual narrative centered around complex and multifaceted phenomena involves delving into various angles and perspectives to develop a storyline and transform it into a photobook. This journey entails a series of trials and errors. To reach the envisioned “book one wants to create” or “book that stands out as a work of art,” it requires time and effort.

With participants from abroad making up a significant portion, the workshop facilitated vibrant discussions among instructors and participants with diverse backgrounds. Different perspectives stemming from varied languages, cultures, and ways of thinking enriched one’s own book, helping to identify missing elements and make improvements.

At the end of the workshop, participants held in their hands rough dummy books. These dummy books serve as the starting point, and even after nearly a year, production continues, striving towards the “book one wants to create.”

During the exhibition period, participating artists will be present, providing insights into the ongoing production of their dummy books. We invite you to experience the process of photobook creation and explore the artworks. We look forward to welcoming you.
