カトリーヌ・ロングリー写真集公開プレゼンテーション「TO TELL MY REAL INTENTIONS, I WANT TO EAT ONLY HAZE LIKE A HERMIT」

この度、Reminders Photography Strongholdでは2018年3月にアレックス・ボチェット（AKINA BOOKS）と後藤由美によって開催された実験的ワークショップアトラスラボ「AKINA BOOKSワークショップ：静と動〜映画的な編集とダミーブック〜」の参加者の一人、カトリーヌ・ロングリーのアーティストブック「To tell my real intentions, I want to eat only haze like a hermit（本心を言うと、私は仙人のように霞だけ食べていたい）」の公開プレゼンテーションを開催いたします。
 
本作は２度にわたるAIR 3331レジデンスプログラムによってリサーチされたもので、日本社会の特定の背景における食べ物と身体との関係を問い、証言、写真、イラスト、記録画像を織り交ぜた一冊。彼女の手で一から作り上げた、アーティストブックとなります。
イベント中は本作中に出てくるフードキーチェーンの壁面展示も予定されており、ギャラリーにて写真集の販売も行ないます。
 
また、本イベントはベルギー フランス語共同体政府 国際交流振興庁（WBI)から後援を受けており、イベントに合わせてベルギー産のビールと軽食もお楽しみいただけます。

「To tell my real intentions, I want to eat only haze like a hermit」
 
食べることは、決して技術的な行為ではない。
 
喜びの源や身体をコントロールするツール、人々を結びつける方法や、一人で味わう楽しみ、不安を抑制したり引き起こしたりと、私たちと食べ物の関係は様々な顔を持っている。私たちの感情に密に結びついていて、社会や家族歴を巧みにさらけ出すものだ。しかし、その基盤はどこにあるのだろうか。
 
カトリーヌ・ロングリーは幼少期、過体重だった。コントロールすることと喜びの狭間で、幼少期の記憶という幽霊は、常に彼女と食べ物を結びつけているものであり、自らを支配し固執させるイメージを形成している。彼女自らの経験をこえて、日本社会という他国よりも人々が体型に対するプレッシャーが強いと思われる特殊な状況の中で、カトリーヌはこの問題に一石を投じた。
 
日本という列島のレジデンスに滞在中、アーティストである彼女は食べ物と身体の関係について様々な人にインタビューを行い、話したことを記録した。そこから分かることは、ユキが少しずつ拒食症に陥っていき、最終的に液体しか飲み込めなくなっていた経緯。レンが、母親の作るお弁当に感謝し、どのように外の世界から自分自身を守ろうとしていたのか。ケンイチが自治体で腹囲の数値を測った後、「メタボ」とカテゴライズされたときの反応。ミナが、兄弟に料理をすることで、いなくなった母親とどうにか再びつながりを持とうしたこと。リカが20年以上、過食症であることを誰にも言わず隠し通すことができた方法。
 
そしてカトリーヌは食と身体の関係について、各々の考えを使い捨てカメラを用いて表現してもらうよう頼んだ。ソーシャルメディアに投稿される見た目が完璧な写真とは対照的に、最終的な写真を調整できないようにする目的で、この特殊なツールを選んだ。結果として、写真はある種の写実的な新鮮さに満ちたものとなり、動転するほど率直な表現に驚くことだろう。
 
インタビューを受けた全員との密接な協力で作られたこの本は、アートと人類学の岐路に立ち、食べ物と身体の関係がどこで根差しているのかを見つけ出すことへ、皆を誘う。
