12/11–12/14 PHOTOBOOK AS OBJECT / PHOTOBOOK WHO CARES | Participating in TOKYO ART BOOK FAIR 2025
artwork by Shu Watanabe
We are pleased to announce that PHOTOBOOK AS OBJECT / PHOTOBOOK WHO CARES will be exhibiting at TOKYO ART BOOK FAIR 2025.
PHOTOBOOK AS OBJECT / PHOTOBOOK WHO CARES grew out of the workshops, masterclasses, and Atlas Lab programs hosted by Reminders Photography Stronghold. The collective is made up of artists who continue to probe the photobook as a singular medium of expression—conceptual, tactile, and rigorously thought-through—by taking part in photobook fairs and related events both in Japan and overseas.
The books we make are not simply collections of photographs bound together.
They start with a question: How do we describe reality, and how might we reweave it?
Through the entire sequence of practices—photographing, editing, graphic design, and binding—each artist constructs the book as an integrated work. Format, paper choice, structural devices, and even the size of the edition all bear traces of conceptual decision-making and form part of the narrative the book proposes.
For us, the photobook is a total artwork: it communicates through form as well as content, engages touch and duration, and offers a mode of “reading” that reshapes perception, memory, and meaning.
At our booth you will find a diverse selection of publications: limited-edition artist books wholly conceived and produced by the artists themselves, trade editions released by independent publishers, and titles that have been recognized in international dummy-book competitions. During the fair, several of the exhibiting artists will staff the booth and welcome conversations with visitors, sharing the background and thinking behind their projects.
A photobook is a small universe woven from an individual point of view.
Please come and take your time with these works—hold them, turn their pages, and encounter the ideas and questions that lie within.
