TAMAKI YOSHIDA’S “At the Threshold” Goes to Arles: July 10 Talk Celebrating Its Selection for the LUMA RENCONTRES DUMMY BOOK AWARD 2026 Shortlist

Tamaki Yoshida explaining At the Threshold to visitors at a recent event in India.

Tamaki Yoshida’s artist book “At the Threshold” began with the traces left by a single “problem bear” that appeared in Rausu, Shiretoko.

Positioned as the opening chapter — an entry point — into a larger body of work still to unfold, the book looks at the unstable boundary where human and wild territories overlap through observations of absence and presence. Trail cameras placed in the mountains, nocturnal fieldwork, images that failed to appear, and those that unexpectedly surfaced: these fragments form the basis of this limited-edition artist book of 59 copies.

We are pleased to announce that “At the Threshold” has been selected for the shortlist of the LUMA RENCONTRES DUMMY BOOK AWARD 2026.

During the week of Les Rencontres d’Arles, we have been invited by Fotobus Society to present a talk on the project.

Tamaki Yoshida, the artist behind the work, and Yumi Goto, who accompanied the project through its development and production, will speak about the background of “At the Threshold”, the research in Rausu, Shiretoko, and the process through which the project took shape as a book.

For those who will be in Arles, we warmly invite you to join us.

Created entirely by the artist, from printing through binding, this artist book is the result of an exceptionally intricate printing process.

The project behind this artist book was developed in conjunction with a joint exhibition held at RPS KYOTO PAPEROLES, the Kyoto branch of Reminders Photography Stronghold. Tamaki Yoshida presenting the artist book to visitors at the exhibition venue.

As the book was taking shape, it became an important moment to exchange thoughts with another artist also engaged in the process of making. She had come to RPS to work on her own artist book, and kindly agreed to proofread the English text for Tamaki Yoshida’s book.
