Reminders Photography Stronghold is organizing Yusuke Takagi’s exhibition “Kagerou” in March.
Yusuke Takagi has started working on editing a photo book “Kagerou” in 2016, when he participated into Photobook as an Object workshop organized by Reminders Photography Stronghold.
His dummy book “Kagerou” won a special prize of FUAM Istanbul Photobook Dummy Award（2017）, and it will be published by Akina Books in March. Pre-order will be starting during the exhibition.
I still remember after the nuclear accident in Fukushima, the sceneries of Tokyo were distorted. At that time I was confused by my response to this unprecedented experience but now I understand that I just couldn’t accept the reality I faced.
Two years later, I had a son, a gem of a little boy. His innocent smile elicits such complicated emotions in me, but at same time cures me profoundly.
I have to admit that I feel sorry for the future of my son because we will never know the effects of radiation on my child, exposed while in the womb of his mother.
Such anger that has no object or outlet!
It is so depressing that I cannot help wearing myself out.
But still, life goes on, no matter whether we are in Tokyo, Yokohama or Fukushima, we are at the mercy of politics and fate..
That being the case, as a human being, as a father and as someone blessed with having known people in Fukushima, I wanted to engrave “life” in photography.
It can be considered as a form of resistance, my way to keep my mental balance and a hold on reality.
