Someday I will die. As a young child, I could not sleep well at night because I imagined the pain and suffering of death. At such times, a strange and unpleasant time would come to me. My body, which was supposed to be lying in a pitch-dark room, floated and was carried somewhere, spinning around and around, up and down, left and right. I was awake, so it was not a dream, and so surreal.
Where was I going at that moment? I wanted to get as close as possible to the answer. I tried to capture the light of life and the shadows of death that are everywhere in our lives, although I could not see them clearly. I wanted to capture the reality in front of me and at the same time reach the cracks that lead beyond reality.
With the birth of my first son and the death of my grandmother, I decided to search for answers through photography with the young me in my heart.
As I repeatedly stared at the photographs, arranged them, and tried to weave a book around them, in a roundabout way, I began to dimly see where I was headed. I was once born into this world like my eldest son, and one day, like my grandmother, I would say goodbye to this world.
But I also learned one thing that I did not realize when I was a child. We were not only born and die. Life also goes around and around.
