THE 11TH RPS GRANTEE QIAN ZHAO
We are pleased to announce that Qian Zhao’s “Offcut, the edge” has been selected as 11th Reminders Photography Stronghold Grantee. He was selected amongst 2015 June deadline submissions by our six commissioned reviewers, Marie Lelièvre, Peggy Sue Amison, Hannamari Shakya, Staten Winter, Enrico Bossan and Michael Dooney. Congratulations!
We are scheduling his exhibition in 2016, more news later!
“Offcut, the edge”
I collect the overlooked fragments of a city. I expand the wonder of both natural and constructed elements, the vestigial signs of life and decay. These elements exist on the periphery of vision, on the margins of any given location. I strive to see beyond the quotidian matter of urban life, beyond mere function, and to charge it with the vibrancy we so easily miss. In these photos I set out to challenge the eye and the imagination to travel beyond functionality.
