2025 PHOTOBOOK AS OBJECT SHOWCASE: MARCH 21TH-29TH, 2026
Since 2014, the photobook-making workshop “PHOTOBOOK AS OBJECT” has been led and organized by Jan Rosseel and Yumi Goto.
In 2025, the workshop was held across two venues: Reminders Photography Stronghold in Tokyo and its Kyoto branch, Reminders Photography Stronghold Kyoto Paperoles.
Reminders Photography Stronghold is pleased to announce that we will share the results of the workshop with a special exhibition by participating artists from both venues, to be held in March 2026.
In this workshop, participants delved into story lines from various angles to share their visual narratives of complex and multifaceted events with others. They completed their work as a collection of photographs. The process is a series of trial and error. It takes time and effort to arrive at “the book you wanted to make” and “the book as a work of art with a sense of existence” that you have not yet seen.
Many of the participants and lecturers in this workshop were from overseas. Having a group of artists from diverse backgrounds made discussions lively and engaging.
Perspectives from different languages, cultures, and ways of thinking added depth to their own books and helped them find and improve missing elements.
At the conclusion of the workshop, participants walked away with their rough yet promising dummy books—works nurtured respectively in the white space of Tokyo and the black space of Kyoto. These dummy books became the starting point for each artist, and even now, more than half a year after the workshop ended, their projects continue to develop as they move steadily toward “the book they truly wanted to create.”
During the exhibition period, participating artists from both the Tokyo and Kyoto venues will be present in the space, where visitors can observe them continuing to work on their dummy books. We invite you to experience the atmosphere of photobook-making firsthand and engage directly with the works in progress. We look forward to welcoming you.
