NEWSPRINT AWARD 2013 JURORS!!

Bookdummypress and Reminders Project Stronghold have joined forces to launch a new photography publication award. It celebrates the newsprint’s contribution to the evolving creativity of self-publishing. Newsprint is a medium with minimal commercial strings attached and allow for a range of experimentation. It has the potential of reaching a diverse audience, the work will be spread to a wider area, faster. It is an autonomous medium accessible to all. This award is intended to stimulate to take a renew approach towards this format and to introduce photographers to a way to self-publish and self-distribute their work.

Matthew Carson
Matthew is a Librarian and Archivist at the International Center of Photography in New York. He is a member of the SAA (Society of American Archivists), ARLIS (Art Libraries Society of North America) and is a member of the Contemporary Artists Books Conference (CABC) committee at the NY Art Book Fair. Born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. Moved to New York in 2006 to attend International Center of Photography and studied Documentary and Photojournalism. After graduating from ICP, she has been exhibited in several group shows both in NY and Japan include New York Photo Festival and “126 Polaroid”, which held in Yokohama Museum of Art. A Venezuela-born artist/photographer whose work has been the recipient of numerous fellowships, including the Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship and the New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship. He curated a show “Book Dummies” at the International Center of Photography. His work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions, including the Rencontres d’Arles 2005 and the show De l’Europe in Luxemburg 2007. He is a faculty at the ICP-Bard MFA Program in NY where he teaches a course “The Book: Imaginary Studio, A Non Stop Process”. http://victorsira.com

With 25 years experience photographing social and human rights issues in Asia and South America. Masaru spent many years abroad as a photographer, he has begun to focus on his own country of Japan, where many social issues are not readily seen or discussed in public. In 2012 he establish the Reminders Photography Stronghold in Tokyo as independent base.

– Yumi Goto / Curator of Reminders Photography Stronghold(RPS)-

Independent art and documentary photography curator, editor, researcher and consultant who focuses on the development of cultural exchanges that transcend borders. She collaborates with local and international artists who live and work in areas affected by conflict, natural disasters, current social problems, human rights abuses and women’s issues. She often works with human rights advocates, international and local NGOs, humanitarian organisations and as well as international photo festivals and events throughout Asia.
