Our commissioned judge for the Grant, Svetlana Bachevanova
Svetlana Bachevanova is a photojournalist, photo editor, curator and publisher.She is the founder and publisher of FotoEvidence, a publishing house for documentary photography focused on social injustice. FotoEvidence sponsors the annual FotoEvidence Book Award that recognizes a photographer whose work demonstrates commitment and courage in the pursuit of social justice.
As a publisher of FotoEvidence, she has edited award winning books and also pioneered the publication of digital photo books. She curates the annual FotoEvidence Book Award Exhibit at the VII Photo Agency Gallery in New York. She curated the exhibit “The Unknown Photographer” for the Noorderlight Photo Festival.
Her “FotoWitness” interviews with renowned photographers are published at Le Journal de la Photographie, Women News Network and on http://www.FotoEvidence.com.
As photojournalist, her work focused on the human condition and social justice have been published in several newspapers and magazines in Europe and the United States, including National Geographic. She covered the revolution in Romania, the fall of the Soviet Union, and the war in Kosovo among other stories. Her work has been shown in solo exhibits in more than 25 countries.
